– Environmental Scan – Social Factors (BC Safety Authority)
In 2005, Clare Mochrie was contracted to develop an environmental scan
report of social factors for the BC
Safety Authority (BCSA). The BCSA is the not for profit corporation
that ensures the safety of technical systems, products, equipment and
work in the province. The purpose of the environmental scan was to identify
and analyze relevant social factors that stand to shape the operations
and direction of the Authority over the next ten years. It also provided
a resource for the Authority’s strategic planning process in April
2005.
2003
– Critical Skills Research for Youth, Aboriginal, and Immigrant
Workers (BC Chamber of Commerce)
In 2003, global Frameworks carried out an extensive review of Literature
and initiatives aimed at engaging the critical skills of under-represented
groups (youth, Aboriginal, and immigrants). The project involved developing
a series of case studies, an assessment of best practices and a set of
recommendations for the Critical
Skills Task Force of the BC Chamber of Commerce
2003
– Employee Housing in Whistler Research Study (Whistler Housing
Authority)
As part of a joint project with Terra Housing Consultants, global FRAMEWORKS

Dimensions
of Mobility Report Series
global
FRAMEWORKS collaborated with Urban Futures Incorporated
to produce a series of reports for the BC Real
Estate Foundation and the Land Centre.
To guide policy decisions towards appropriate housing and service provision,
the reports examined the relationship between age, housing characteristics
and mobility patterns of residents in six municipal regions in BC.
Housing
Occupancy Demand Publication Series
global
FRAMEWORKS is currently working with Urban Futures
Incorporated to develop a publication series entitled, Housing
Occupancy Demand in British Columbia's Regional Districts 2001-2031.
The reports will provide BC's Regional Districts with estimates of population
growth and change as well as detailed housing occupancy demand
forecasts. The series offer demographic and housing demand inputs
important for regional long-range land use, transportation and service
delivery planning programs.
BC
Climate Exchange
The
BC Climate Exchange is a multi-interest program of the Fraser
Basin Council and the Canadian
Institute for Climate Studies that promotes learning about
climate change issues. In 2002, global FRAMEWORKS worked on the project
to develop a web-based database of climate change resources.
The database contains descriptions and links to a wide range of resources
for public education and outreach on climate change. Global FRAMEWORKS
also developed a gap analysis of available resources to assist
the project in determining new priority projects.
LPRV
is a Centre
for Human Settlements (CHS) program
at UBC aimed at local development planning in Vietnam. With funding
from the Canadian
International Development Agency,
CHS has been working with eight university partners in Vietnam and Canada
since 1998 to build local skills around policy assessment and project
planning. From 1998 to 2000, Clare worked as a researcher for the project,
providing literature reviews and annotated bibliographies related
to women and poverty.
The
Rural Lessons Learned Project was a cooperative between the Fraser
Basin Council and the BC Rural Team to compile an anthology
of lessons learned from the wide range of rural community-based initiatives
taking place in British Columbia. Clare was engaged in the second phase
of the project, and conducted interviews and case studies on
sustainable development projects in rural BC.
Resilient
Communities Project
The
Resilient Communities Project is a multi-disciplinary initiative lead
by the UBC Chair of Anthropology. It is aimed at exploring the links
between social capital and resiliency in BC's coastal communities. Clare
Mochrie joined the team in 1999 to conduct a comprehensive literature
review of indicators and case studies related to social capital
and resiliency. Her work entitled Resilient Communities: Social Capital
Indicators in Coastal Areas of BC, was published in August 2000
and formed the basis of the project's background research.
Noha
Sedky co-authored a research study on population and housing of BC's
Aboriginal population for the Urban
Futures Institute. The study
was a comparative analysis of 1996 census data that looked at major
settlement patterns of people of Aboriginal ethnic origin. The demographic
analysis focused on population age profiles while the housing analysis
looked at tenure, structure type, and age specific maintainer rates.
